The Basic Equipment Needed For Starting A Home Baking Business
For those who love to bake, it is also a great and easy way to make some extra cash. There are only a few basics needed in order to begin the baking and selling adventure. Specializing in one particular item at first will be the easiest way to start and cakes are the most popular. To begin all that is needed is a few varieties in pans, a cake mix recipe and creativity.
A standard cake pan can consist of various sizes and shapes such as a sheet pan which is a rectangle shaped pan. Using this pan makes it simple to bake a cake and carve various designs from a single sheet. They are also used for making cakes to serve a lot of people, for example a large birthday party.
You should also have square cake pans on hand as these are perfect for carving different shapes from and stacking for high cakes. These also work well when making a layered cake with several different flavors in each layer.
A heart cake pan is also a great starter pan to have on hand. They are perfect for making Valentines Day, anniversary or birthday cakes. They also are used for carving and making other creations by combining different shapes.
The correct pan for the task at hand is important for making beautiful cakes. Also keep in mind that certain recipes require specific pans, for example an angel food cake is normally baked in a bundt pan. Cakes are usually all baked at 350 degrees with the only variance being the amount of time for each kind.
When using a deep pan the baking time will be much longer than when using a shallow pan. To check a cake for doneness, lightly touch it in the center and it will bounce back when done. Or it can be checked by inserting a toothpick into the cakes center, when the toothpick comes out clean the cake is done.
Once you get the hang of baking and selling your cakes, you will begin to make a nice profit. When the profits start it will be necessary to purchase additional items for increasing the business. For every profit, a new item should be purchased. Learn new recipes for altering standard flavors to make your items unique and delicious. Word of mouth will get you a lot of business so offer samples occasionally at craft fairs or malls. Remember to attach a business card to each sample you provide and try to use your specializations as the free samples.
How do you calculate the yield for an odd size sheet of plastic?
I found the perfect thickness of plastic Delrin in my garage but it's already shaped in an exact circle. The Diameter is 4 inches which is fine because I need 3.89 inch diameter in the pieces I'm cutting. I have approx. 75.3 inches of length of the delrin. Each of the pieces is really thin that I'm creating a mear .03125 inches. I need 324 pieces and a couple to spare wouldn't hurt. Does anyone know how to calculate this or is there a calculator that does this?
Confusing question, but I think I understand what you need.
There are yield calculators out there on the internet, but I will do the math for you.
You would get 327 pieces of 4" diameter discs that are .03125" thick.
The reason it wouldn't be more is that the saw blade will eat up material in between each cut (about .2" per cut)
Just so you know, this job will be VERY difficult to do, so make sure you have proper machinery or take it to a professional.
Good luck!
R7: Cowon, what were you thinking? (AnythingButiPod)
Cowon Korea just announced the R7, a "Full HD Super PMP", which is more of a
7″ tablet without connectivity. At 800×480 pixel it sports quite low
resolution for that screen size, but - as far as I can interpret the Korean
specs sheet - it should have excellent battery life: 65 hours for audio, [...]
