Safety Characteristics Of Loft Beds
Searching for a loft bed with desk with adequate safety features is an important requirement. Lofts are exquisite furnishings for all types of room whether huge or small. They are appealing to the eye and serve a helpful purpose too. Lofts in order to be useful should match your needs, weight and provide safety to user.
These are some of the guidelines to keep you safe when you use lofts:
Weight handling ability. Some lofts are not capable of handling weight more than 200 pounds. Manufacturers often design the lofts for little children. This is why you should ask the seller how much is its weight limit. A 200 pound weight ability may appear enough but this is the total for weight of mattress, foundation and user weight. Combining all of these weight will make the 200 inadequate.
Safety Mattress. The mattress should be tied to bed rails. Kids who play with the upper mattress might untie the mattress and could pin the child. The mattress foundation should be strong for safety reasons.
The mattress size is essential as well. A mattress should be about 6 inches thick. If it is not adequately thick, it could slide off bed while you are fast asleep. The frame should cover the mattress so it will not dislodge.
Strong Guardrails. The safety rails of upper mattress should be at the very least 5 inches long. Anything lesser would be unsafe. If you roll out of upper mattress, remember that you will fall to the floor. This could cause injuries or even be fatal. Guardrails can prevent that from happening.
Secure Ladder. It is important to have a secure ladder that is physically attached that cannot dislodge while climbing up. The ladders are screwed into the bed, they cannot dislodge.
When hanging things in a loft, refrain from putting hooks near a ladder. Hooks are ideal for hanging a roasting pan or your clothes. But put them in a safe place away from contact to your skin. Pointed hooks could capture your shirt or pin your skin causing injuries.
Sturdy bed foundation. When you climb the ladder of bed, it should not sway. It should be able to support your body weight. The bed must make you confident and you do not feel like it is collapsing under your weight. It must not be attached to the wall for added support. Lofts should be free standing not bolted to a wall.
Wood frames must be pressure treated. This type of lumber is not fit for indoor use because it was treated by a toxic chemical. Do not use this kind of wood for loft bed.
Transmission pan capacity?
My husband has a '99 dakota with a partly rotted tranny pan. I'm looking at buying replacement ones and was just wondering if an "extra capacity" pan is any better than a normal capacity pan. For the record we are driving from Florida to Maine in a month or so, and the truck will be towing a small 16 ft aluminum boat for the duration of the trip, as well as being loaded with our stuff.
also, this is the trans pan I am looking at...does it matter which one I order?

As if it matters..but we're acutally going from MAINE to Florida...I don't know where my mind has gone!
Your larger pan may help keep things running cooler, but unless you had problems with the tranny, the extra capacity pan is just extra money and extra weight.
