The Alabama Crimson Tide - One Of The Biggest Squads To Take The Field

This is the much-awarded home team of the University of Alabama (‘Bama). Throughout its career the team has won 792 individual victories in the first division of the NCAA. Among the list of their victories are 13 national championships and 26 championships on the conference level. Four of these conference championships were from the southern conference while 22 came from the SEC (Southeastern Conference’s Football) games. Besides those distinctions, the team boasts of 57 post-season bowl games. They also have a record of 22 consecutive wins in ten games and 16 seasons started off with a score of 10-0. So far, the team has won against all teams in the Southeastern Conference at one time or another. So far the team has bagged 13 national championships plus 26 conference championships, four from the southern conference and 22 from the SEC (Southeastern Conference’s Football) championships. Other records held by the team are for 57 post-season bowl appearances, 22 10-game consecutive wins and 10-0 starting scores for 16 seasons. Currently, Alabama has posted a win against all SEC member schools.

Following last year’s (2009) season, the NCAA National Football ratings show the team in first place for the tabulation of the Associated Press as well as for that of USA Today. In terms of popularity, the team places 5th according to the ESPNU Ran Rankings poll, the most popular being Florida, Texas, USC and Oklahoma in descending order. The home stadium of the team, Bryant-Denny,  is located on campus at Tuscaloosa, Alabama As for the popularity rankings as shown in the ESPNU Fan Rankings, the team is on fifth place, Florida, Texas, USC and Oklahoma taking the first four slots. The home base of the team is the Bryant-Denny Stadium located in the campus of the university itself in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The first team victory was won in 1896 when the ‘Cadets’ or the ‘Crimson White’ or ‘the Varsity’ as they were then variously called won 56-0 against a team composed of selected players from Birmingham high schools. In 1924, the team began to gain national attention. Ever since then, the team has been famous for importing players from other states who ate one time comprised 1/3 of the team. Today the team has accumulated 13 national championship titles. The team was coached by Wallace Wade during the first three victories. The last two championships , in 1992 and in 2009 were under the guidance of Gene Stallings and Nick Saban. They won 56-0. But it was not until 1924 that the team rose to national prominence. Since then, the team has been able to win 13 national championships. Out of those winning seasons, three were coached by Wallace Wade, two by Frank Thomas, six by Bear Bryant. In 1992 the team’s coach was Gene Stallings and in their latest win in 2009, they were under Coach Nick Saban.

First team All Americans in football are lists created by various magazines. These lists consist of combinations of the best players from all the teams participating in the conferences. Of the many magazines which have these player line-ups, the NCAA acknowledges Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News and Walter Camp Football Foundation.

In those prestige lists, Alabama Crimson Tide players have shown up 113 times. 12 of those featured appeared twice in the list while two appeared three times. In the latest publication after the 2009 season, five members are honored as first team All-Americans. They are Javier Arenas, Terence Cody, Mark Ingram, Mike Johnson, Rolando McClain and Leigh Tiffin. After the 2009 season, five team members were honored as first team All-Americans, namely; Javier Arenas, Terence Cody, Mark Ingram, Mike Johnson, Rolando McClain and Leigh Tiffin.

He intends to stay a few years there.

Judging from the past performance of the team and its present setup of players and coach, that prophecy may just come true. One thing that the team has got going against them is the jinx that the Bowl Championship series seems to have. No team has one it in two consecutive years so far. USC won two consecutive national championships but the first crown was awarded by Associated Press.

The Tide’s next game will be held at its home base, the Bryant-Dent stadiums which are right now being done over to accommodate more seats.
