Hints For Do It Yourself Kitchen

In case your kitchen is beginning to appear worn out and dingy, a do it yourself kitchen will renew this appearance and also add a personal touch. Installing cupboards & lights, adding a coating of paint and creating a kitchen island are just a few of the things you may do for a brand new looking kitchen. Though, as a word of caution, you must know when to call in for expert assistance. While you may manage most of the changes and renovations, you will require help with the plumbing as well as electrical & gas installations.

You could need to install new cupboards in place, to enhance the ones that you already have. Before beginning any work, protect your floor with a house wrap & Masonite sheets. Tape the sheets together to maintain them from moving as you work. If you do not want additional cabinets, you may wish to give the existing ones a brand new look. Usually, a coat of paint in a chic colour works wonders and transforms them instantly.

You may strip the tiles on floor to reveal the rich, hardwood beneath. Alternatively, make use of non-slip tiles which are durable and easy to clean. Do not use any mats in the kitchen. They'll get stained simply and as a result of their slippery nature, are prone to cause accidents. Organize your counter tops and tables to create numerous worktops, particularly if your kitchen is large. One good way is by creating an island (with a granite top).

Spruce up the lighting by adding lights in particular locations. Some lights under the cabinets will light up the darkish space beneath them. Slim lights are ideal for this. Because they are hardwired, you will need to mount a junction box in the cupboard and drill a hole through the cupboard where the plug will pass through. That is also where the electric wires from the switch to the cabinet will cross through. Place a special metal cover over the wires for protection. Set up sconce lights to light up the sink.

Extra lights that are simple to set up include rope lighting for dark cupboards and pendant lights. Ensure that you meet all {the electrical} tips for kitchens as stipulated in your country. If you really feel insufficient to do the lighting yourself, get a qualified electrician to do it for you. Check out licensed electricians in your local area from the state department. Do not forget that although it can cost you, it ensures security and is worth the investment.

Different precautionary measures you must observe within the do it yourself kitchen include correct positioning of the cookers & refrigerator/freezer. Those 2 are by far the major causes of fires within the kitchen so knowing the particular gas and electrical regulations for kitchens is paramount. Don't place the fridge & cooker in close proximity as a result of the warmth from the cooker will affect the fridge's motor. Avoid putting the cooker below the window, where people love to lean. It would cause burns! It must also be a secure distance away from the sink to stop the explosive combination of oil and cold water which can scald badly.

Which works better---freezer ziplock bags or freezer paper?

I would assume freezer paper, but I bought some freezer bags that were on sale. I didn't want to invest on freezer tape....though I imagine you could use masking tape if you had to. In the future though, what prevents freezer burn more efficiently?

Either one will do, provided you remove all the air from the bag before you close it, or tape the paper closed, leaving no air holes or openings. I find electrical tape works pretty good, if you don't have freezer tape. Masking tape tends to freeze and come unglued, peeling right off. Good luck.
