How To Select A Microwave Oven
The microwave is not often thought of as a complex machine. They are mainly noticed for how small they are and how well foods are heated in a fast and convenient way. There are many sizes, brands, and watts to consider. Extra options such as turntables and one touch buttons are also featured. There are guidelines to follow before considering a microwave purchase.
Heating leftovers and warming drinks are what we most think of when it comes to a microwave. Some use it just to defrost foods or cook foods in very little fat. A microwave heats by magnetrons, which is how the watts are decided. In larger microwaves, this means more watts than in a smaller one.
How much space a kitchen has needs to be determined before purchasing a microwave. Large microwaves will be awkward in a small area. Likewise, if there is a vast amount of cooking in a kitchen, a smaller microwave may not work so well.
Often in a larger kitchen, major microwaves are used along with the stove and oven. An over the range microwave fits well here. There is no counter space taken up. Now with an over the counter model, there is often more costs than one made for counter tops. Installation may need to be done by a professional, unless it is a do it yourself microwave.
A countertop microwave wins in price point as it costs less than an over the counter microwave. There is also no installation to worry about. If counter space is a much-needed commodity, this can be an issue with some of the larger sized ovens.
Extras on microwaves include sensors and shortcut keys. Sensors are used to prevent food from being cooked too long or not enough. Shortcut keys are a wonderful way of not having to determine how much time a particular food or drink needs to be heated. Foods such as popcorn, potatoes, and pizza are often listed on shortcut buttons. Microwaves now often come with 30-second keys and minute interval keys that allow one to just press a single button to determine time. Some extras are not essential if they are not going to be used on a regular basis. This could fewer dollars paid out of the convection setting and extra trays are of no real use.
Before plopping down hard earned money on a brand, such as a ge microwave, insure that it includes the essentials. Research the watts, size, and additional features that may be necessary. A microwave is meant to make life easier, not more work.
