Selecting A Product Or Service For Your New Business
Try counting how many products there are to purchase. Whether it be on the internet, or in the high street. Thousands, if not tens or hundreds of thousands of products and services must exist. Actually, let's rethink that. There are millions of different and products and services you can sell worldwide. So what on earth do you pick as a new company to sell? For starters, what's the difference between a product and a service, and which one do you want to offer?
Provide something you are very good at
Logically, that makes perfect sense. They say you should do a job you love, and what better way to form a company that provides a service you are very good at. This is why for example a cake maker might end up with several bakeries years down the line. Starting a company that offers a service you are passionate about will no doubt help you provide a good product and happy customers. On the other hand, providing a service you aren't sure about can be tricky. While you can employ experts to fill the gaps, its always a good idea to be good at what you are offering.
Choose a 9-5 service or product
This comes from the voice of bitter experience! Don't get me wrong, running a business is hard work, but then so can be the rewards. However don't listen to those telling you you need to work 7 days a week to make a successful business. If you are, something's wrong. Such companies to avoid running would be anything internet service based. E.g. if you like your hair, and hair colour, don't offer business web hosting, or game servers. You will never have a social life. The best company to setup is one that runs from an office, running office hours 9-5.
Go to work, come home
Rent an office from the start. Working from home is a bad thing, don't listen to the rumours! Working from makes it incredible hard to motivate yourself, and you absolutely won't be able to separate work and home. Unless you live in a mansion, it won't look impressive when you want to meet and impress clients either. Without the ability to create a good impression on clients, your business will struggle.
Form a company to make money
Why work for peanuts? Pick a product or service that is going to make you good money. It is imperative you research products and services before you start offering them as a new company. Competitor analysis will tell you a great deal of useful information. What prices are your potential competitors charging? Research different suppliers to find out how much it will cost to provide your service. Before you sell a product or service and setup a company, know what you are offering.
Running companies should be great fun
8 hours a day will be taken up by your business once you have found the best company formation agent. Also remember there is the time taken to travel to work. Think about it, you spend more time at work than you do anything else. Therefore whatever you choose to provide, product or service, enjoy it. Choose a labour of love. The more you enjoy your work, the better job you will do, and the more successful your new company.
